Intermediate Apprenticeship in Children and Young People’s Workforce (Level 2)

 

Who is the qualification for?

 The Children and Young People’s Workforce Apprenticeship is ideal for anybody who is working with children from birth to 16-years-old - or with their families. It is designed for those working under supervision such as a nursery assistant, care worker /assistant or youth & community worker assistant. This Apprenticeship is for people who do not want to pursue a general education route but who are still keen to keep learning as they work. They are a great way of earning and gaining workplace experience whilst also achieving nationally-recognised qualifications. You can start this Apprenticeship from 16 years old and enter employment in a nursery or childcare environment, but you will need a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check to be carried out by your prospective employer before you start.

 Apprentices should be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week. To complete the Intermediate Apprenticeship will take 6 to 12 months.


Intermediate Apprenticeship Framework

 In completing this Apprenticeship at L2 the learner will achieve the following qualifications:

  • Intermediate Apprenticeship in Children and Young People’s Workforce Level 2
  • L2 Award in Employment Responsibilities and Rights in Health, Social Care ORChildren and Young People's Settings
  • Certificate Level 2 in Children and Young People’s Workforce
  • Functional Skills in Maths, English & ICT at Level 1
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

 Exemptions

 

You are entitled to Functional Skills exemptions if you have the following qualifications.

FS in Maths              Either GCSE grade C or above or Functional Skills in Maths (L1)

FS in English            Either GCSE grade C or above or Functional Skills in Maths (L1)

FS in ICT                 Functional Skills in ICT (L1)

They give people real skills to help them do their job because they are flexible and allow them to:

- Choose a level that is right for them.
 

Qualification structure

Apprentices need to complete a total of minimum 35 credits. All learners will need to complete the 13 mandatory units with a total value of 31 credits. They will then need to achieve a minimum of 4 credits from the bank of optional units
