Whom this qualification is for
This QCF Certificate is designed for anyone who uses a computer, be they employed or not, employees wishing to gain a qualification that formally recognises their skills, or those wishing to work toward gaining a full ECDL qualification having already completed one or more ECDL modules.
The aim of this qualification is to contribute to the skills, knowledge and overall performance of IT User Skills. Its purpose is to provide insight into the principles and processes of IT User Skills and to ensure employees are more effectively employed.
It delivers real and practical skills to help employees do their job in a professional manner, and benchmarks their ability, recognising their personal attainment through the level they achieve.
The flexibility of the course allows employees to:
• learn at their own pace
• choose with their employer from a range of optional units that best reflect their role and their working environment
Qualification struture
To achieve the BCS Level 2 Certificate in IT User Skills (ITQ), candidates will need to complete 4 credits from the Mandatory Unit and a further 12 credits as follows to bring total credits to 16:
For ECDL Extra: 3 compulsory units at Level 2; Word Processing, Spreadsheet Software and Presentation Software.
For ECDL Flexiqual: 2 units at Level 2 totalling a minimum of 6 credits, plus a further 2 units at either Level 2 or Level 1 totalling 6 or more credits.

Delivery and assessment
The course includes on-line and blended learning session with tutor support and is suitable for both employed and unemployed candidates. Most employers are really supportive about attending any necessary training and taking part in the programme, as they recognise the value to their business of candidates gaining new skills and a valuable nationally-recognised qualification.
The duration of the programme is neither fixed nor rigid, and can accommodate extra-curricular time that can be committed, as well as the flexibility of employer’s and candidate’s own self-discipline. Normally, ATC allows 6—8 weeks for candidates to complete the course.
Exemptions
It may be possible to obtain exemption from some units for candidates who have prior ECDL achievement accreditation for units taken within the last 2 years.
Course Fees
For employed people there is a contribution of £250 (inclusive of VAT) toward course costs and for unemployed people a deposit of £30, refundable upon completion is required.
Eligibility
Candidates must:
• be working or volunteering 16+ hours per week in a role for which this qualification is relevant *
• undertake literacy and numeracy assessments if appropriate and/or undertake a relevant skills diagnostic
• be in EU for settled purposes for a minimum of 3 years (no student or HSMP Visas accepted)
• live or work in or around West London
• be aged 19+
